A reform that brings light and functionality

Bárbara Aurell has managed to make the dream of the owner of this apartment in Barcelona come true. The comprehensive renovation, designed by her studio, Espacio en Blanco, has turned what was a dark apartment divided into small rooms into an open and bright space, ideal for modern living.

The priority was to make the most of the natural light that enters through the balcony and redistribute it towards the darkest corners of the apartment. The solution was to open up the space by creating a large day area that unites the living room, dining room and kitchen in a continuous environment. The kitchen, made of beech wood, provides warmth and neutrality, while the open bookcase in black serves as a divider and gives functionality to both the living room and the kitchen. This central piece also includes a breakfast bar, a practical touch designed to make the most of every corner.

Multipurpose studio and guest bathroom with character

One of the most striking features of the renovation is the multipurpose study. This space can function as both a work area and a guest bedroom, thanks to a minimalist-style bed and a large sliding glass door that visually connects with the living area. When greater privacy is required, a decorative curtain can be used to isolate the space.

The guest bathroom also deserves a special mention. With a monochrome design, it stands out for its details in brick tones, which are reflected in the hydraulic flooring and the washbasin furniture. The Dinan washbasin by Bathco adds an elegant and modern touch, perfectly complementing the contemporary atmosphere of the apartment.

A perfect balance between color and neutrality

The finishing touch of this renovation is provided by the careful selection of colours. While the main palette is kept in neutral tones, such as the beige of the beech wood and the black of the bookcase, decorative elements in terracotta tones such as the dining table and lamp, or the details of the guest bathroom, add personality without saturating the space. This fusion of warmth and modernity defines the spirit of the renovation and shows the interior designer’s ability to balance functionality and style.
