The challenge of renovating your own home

For Natalia Zubizarreta, a renowned interior designer from the Basque Country, renovating her own apartment in Getxo was a real challenge. Although she is an expert in transforming homes for her clients, tackling the task of designing her own space proved to be a test of patience and reflection.

Natalia’s objective was clear: to create a refuge of peace, harmony and light. To do so, she chose a neutral color palette and timeless materials to ensure the design would not become tired over time. To maximize luminosity, she opted for white lacquered carpentry, light carpeting and the elimination of doors in the living room, achieving a greater feeling of spaciousness.

At home, Natalia allowed herself to experiment with ideas that she would not usually apply to her clients’ projects. She replaced traditional doors with screens and opted for taller doors with black handles, which provide a modern touch without losing the classic essence of the space.

The mix of classic and modern elements characterizes the design. Antique furniture is combined with designer pieces creating a cozy and visually interesting space.

The bathroom is a perfect example of his ability to combine classic with modern. Natalia chose natural marbles and reused a chest of drawers, transforming it into an elegant bathroom furniture, crowned with the natural stone Dual washbasin and a modern faucet that provides a sophisticated contrast.
