Preserving the Barcelona building tradition

In the vibrant neighborhood of Sant Antoni, in Barcelona, there is a beautiful 120m2 house that has been transformed into an interior design project by the MADE BCN studio. With four bedrooms, two bathrooms, a closed kitchen and a cozy living-dining room with access to a gallery, this project stands out for its focus on preserving the traditional way of living on the Ensanche floor and highlighting existing elements.

Upon entering the house, one is met with a sensation of authenticity and Barcelona construction tradition. The ceilings with moldings and rose windows, the beautiful hydraulic pavements with their varied designs and the original woodwork bear witness to the history that is breathed in every corner. MADE BCN made the indisputable decision to conserve and reuse these elements to the maximum, making them the protagonist of the design.

The focus of the project consisted of carrying out small but significant interventions in each of the spaces and corners of the house. The kitchen, for example, was integrated into the long distribution corridor, energizing it and giving it a sensation of visual spaciousness. The materials chosen for this new addition were harmoniously adapted to the existing ones, without generating conflicts.

One of the most outstanding modifications was the removal of a partition that separated the bedroom from the living-dining room. This decision made it possible to create a unique and bright space, illuminated by the gallery on the rear façade. Despite this intervention, the initial integrity and coherence of the house was maintained, preserving its architectural value. The result is a cozy and functional environment, where the limits between the different areas vanish.

The interior design project achieves maximum functionality without distorting the original configuration of the house. The bathroom is one of the spaces that has adapted the most, each new element, such as the Dinan washbasin, is carefully integrated into the environment. It does not compromise the essence, nor the history of the house.

This project is a testament to the value of interior design as a means to connect the past and the present, creating a home that honors its past while adapting to modern needs.
